Why does EVERYONE get offended if I call them dear?

People are weird and get offended over nothing. Too many sensative people out there, Honestly there is nothing wrong with saying that. Alot of people (Esp Old people.) say 'Dear'....Just like when a few people use to get offended when someone said 'Hun'.....I don't get people.....Would they like it better if you said 'Whats up Woman?' Everytime you answer the phone.. Or 'Bye Woman' .. lol..
